Robert Hill-Smith was born in Adelaide on 29 October 1951. He talks about the early days at Yalumba and his family being part of the wine industry. He went overseas in 1978 to learn about the wine industry and started at Yalumba in 1979. He worked in London for 3 months to establish an export market. He talks about changes in marketing wine in the 1980s and making wine for the international market
