This Stuart O'Grady face mask was produced as promotional merchandise for the inaugural Tour Down Under held in Adelaide in 1999. O'Grady was the eventual overall winner of the race and won it again in 2001.
Stuart O'Grady OAM is one of Australia's favourite cycling sons. He started as a track cyclist and won a gold medal with Graeme Brown OAM in the Men's Madison at the 2004 Summer Olympics. As a professional road bicycle racer O'Grady has competed in the Tour de France since 1998 and contended for the sprinters' green jersey, finishing second in the 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2005 races. He wore the yellow jersey of race leader in 1998 and 2001.
