Modern paper designer Robert Sabuda displays his delicate and amazing paper engineering skills in the little book Christmas: a stocking filler. Each letter spelling Christmas has a corresponding Christmas motif that unfolds when the page is turned. A candle, house, ribbon, icicle, snowflake, toy, manger, angel, and Santa pop up as the pages are turned to spell 'Christmas'. The minimal use of colour lends a winter chill to the traditional Christmas season.

Sabuda (b. 1965) is a leading American children's pop-up book artist and paper engineer. His work is intricately designed, richly colourful and visually powerful. His recent books, such as those based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland, have been well received and critically acclaimed.

His early interest in three-dimensional books was piqued by a book he was given that had been when he was ten years old created by Vojtech Kubasta . It was Cinderella and it changed his view of pop-ups forever[i]. He says, 'With the ability to hold a crayon, came the discovery that I was an artist. I spent hours, days and weeks drawing, painting, cutting and gluing. My bedroom was a constant whirlwind of pencil shavings, drippy paint brushes and mounds of paper scraps'.
