This pop-up card is an invitation sent to Des Ross, Chairman of the Libraries Board, to a cocktail party on the Palm House Lawn at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Wednesday 26th February 1992. The party was for the official launch of a fund raising appeal for the restoration of the old Palm House, built 1887.
The card is constructed using one of the simplest and yet very effective forms of paper engineering using just the one piece of cardstock, known as a V-Fold. The shape has been die-cut using the existing paper, with no other gluing, tabs, thread or additional paper pieces involved. The cuts are made to the back of the cardstock and then creased and folded forward into the middle or front of the card, to pop out the design on the front, in this case, the old Palm House. It is a method that can easily be done by hand and is a great paper-craft activity for children to do.
Being a pop-up card they sit very nicely opened out and are the kind of cards people tend to keep as they lend themselves readily to display.
Robert Sabuda, whose work is also on display, welcomes you to his website @ www.robertsabuda.com so you can make free pop-ups with the templates at the site and find out about his publications.
Other simple forms of paper craft include paper planes and easy origami figures.
