CreatorAlderman, A. RTitleMawson: an obituaryDate of publication1959?SourceProfessor Sir Douglas Mawson : memoir and bibliographyDescription
Arthur Alderman followed Mawson as Professor of Geology at the University of Adelaide. His obituary for Sir Douglas Mawson was originally published in the Transactions of the Royal Society of South Australia and subsequently issued as a reprint, overstamped as Publication 270 from the School of Geology, University of Adelaide. It contains a photographic portrait of Mawson as an older man.
In the obituary Alderman can give no more than an overview of Mawson's accomplishments: these he admits are remarkable. While Alderman's focus is on Mawson's work in South Australian geology, in particular his interest in the Flinders Ranges and northeastern area of South Australia, he mentions also his scientific achievements in Antarctica. He refers also to Mawson's academic honours. The obituary is followed by a bibliography of Mawson's scientific publications.
