Manufacturers of a range of goods used the movement to federate the Australian colonies of the late 19th century and early 20th century to promote and sell their goods. The 'Advance Australia' motto was used by the Federation movement as well as in popular publications. An official coat of arms was granted in 1908, but the current coat of arms was not granted until 1912. While Australia has no official faunal emblem the kangaroo and emu have been widely accepted as such.
This postcard has been used as a New Year's greeting to Miss Ethel Lucy. Many books, toys, games and other ephemera have been donated to the State Library by the Lucy Family.
