TitleWoodley's Coonawarra 'Skeleton' : wine labelDate of publication1956Description
This wine label for Woodley's Coonawarra claret shows the celebrated Irish stallion Skeleton, believed to be the first Irish-bred horse imported to Australia.
When the print, from a painting by BM Chalon, was made in 1832, the horse was at Raby, a farm 55 kilometres south-west of Sydney.
The label was designed by renowned designer Wytt Morro as part the Woodley Treasure Clarets series from 1949 to 1956. This label decorated the 1956 vintage which Woodley's believed to be the strongest and 'gutsiest'.
