Traite des arbres et arbustes qui l'on cultive en France en pleine terre

Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was passionate about botany, but at his father's wish he studied law. On his father's death however, he established a model farm on the family estate, testing methods of horticulture and agriculture in conjunction with some of the leading scientists of his time. Duhamel produced almost 90 books and scientific papers. Perhaps one of the most beautiful of these is his seven volume work, Traite des arbres et arbustes qui l'on cultive en France en pleine terre (Treaty on trees and shrubs that are grown in the land of France) which contains exquisite illustrations by Pierre-Joseph Redoute.

Liriodendron tuilpifera, or the Tulip tree, is a deciduous tree from the United States of America. Also known as the American tulip tree and the Tulip poplar.

Ribes rubrum or the Red currant, is native to Western Europe.
