A postcard, sent by C.R. (Carew Reynell?) dated 9 June 1915 headed 'Flags unfurled for glorious freedom'. It includes the flags of 'Great Britain and her colonies' and 'The King's message to his troops'on the front.
Major Carew Reynell, the eldest son of Walter and Emily Reynell, was born at Rostrevor on 16 September 1883. A vigneron in civilian life, Carew applied for a commission with the 9th Light Horse in December 1914 and was appointed 2nd in command. On 7 August 1915 he was promoted to Lieut. Colonel. He was killed in action on 28 August 1915 during the battle for Hill 60. He is buried in the Hill 60 British Cemetery at Gallipoli.
