Autograph book from German POW camp

This autograph book was signed by inmates from various countries at the Prisoner of War camp in Clausthall, Germany. Some recorded their experiences with their signatures: Lieut. GF Knight 'Escaped Cambrai recaptured by horse!'; Lieut. L. Morgan 'Captured in patrol near Le Fransby'; Flight Lieut. FJ Bailey 'Captured by hostile submarine on Belgian coast 24/7/16' and Lieut. D Cairnes 'Lost in storm'.

It is estimated that over 3800 Australians were taken prisoner by German forces in the First World War, captured on the Western Front in France and Belgium between 1916 and 1918. Most were held in prisoner of war camps located in Germany.
