Title Henrietta Kennion's albumDate1894Description
In 1883, at the age of just 37, George Wyndham Kennion became the second Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. His wife Henrietta was the sister of former South Australian Governor Sir James Fergusson and was said to have been very popular amongst the people of Adelaide. When the Bishop left Australia in 1894 to become Bishop of Bath and Wells in England, Mrs Kennion was presented, by 'the churchwomen of South Australia', with a book of illuminated addresses representing the many charitable organisations with which she had been associated.
The House of Mercy at Walkerville was one of the organisations which Mrs Kennion supported. This had been established by a group of Anglicans in 1881 as a home for unmarried, expectant mothers.
Henrietta Kennion spent her final years in Scotland, where she died in 1937 aged 99.
