Abstract log of HMS Buffalo and various remarks written by Charles Brown Fisher. Mention is made of Captain John Hindmarsh commissioning the ship in Portsmouth Harbour on 23 April 1836 and continues on July 13 when the ship set sail out of harbour for Spithead [off Portsmouth] at 10.30 A.M. where she anchored at 11.45 A.M. There she was replenished with provisions, water and powder.

On July 23 HMS Buffalo began the long journey to South Australia. The final entry dates from 27 December 1836 and tells of squally conditions off Point Marsden, Kangaroo Island. The last page records Distance actually run from Noon to Noon every day, 27 July to 27 December 1836.

Charles Brown Fisher (1818-1908) was the second son of the Resident Commissioner James Hurtle Fisher. He joined his elder brother James first as a merchant and later as a pastoralist and sent sheep to the Victorian goldfields. He moved to Victoria and eventually owned properties in the Northern Territory and Queensland as well as the southern states, such as Bundaleer in the Mid North of SA. He was declared bankrupt in 1895 and later returned to Adelaide.
