The Shah Nameh, commonly written as Shahnameh or Shahaname, is the epic of the Persian speaking world that tells of the mythical and historical past of Iran from the creation of the world to the Islamic conquest of Iran in the 7th century. It is writtten is rhyming couplets.

The author's name has many variant spellings including Firdausi, Ferdowsi, Firdowsi, Firdawsi, Firdusi and Ferdausi. He lived from 940 to 1020 AD.
