Diary of Charles Todd [transcript]

The builder of the Overland Telegraph Line in 1872, Todd attended an International Telegraphic Conference in Berlin in 1885 as Superintendent of Telegraphs. He took the opportunity to meet with his colleagues to get hands-on experience of manufacturing and technology developments.

His Diary of a tour on the Continent and in England, and of a voyage to Australia 1885-86 details these meetings. It also refers to visits to Dents in London where Todd, the longest ever serving Libraries Board member, purchased the clock that still keeps excellent time in the Mortlock Chamber today.
