Commonwealth Police Check Point at Woomera. Woomera was kept under very tight security for the first 35 years of its existence.
Woomera is a 'closed town'; it is locked up behind big gates, and at each of these gates policemen are on duty night and day all year round. One of these gates stands across every road that enters the town from the outside world, and if you happen to be travelling across the country in a car and come up to one of the gates the policeman will not let you in unless you have a pass - a small piece of card...Even if the driver of the car has a pass and you haven't, you still won't get through.

Since 1982 the town has been publicly accessible and tourists now take the opportunity to explore this unique place.
