Originally published anonymously and incorrectly attributed to Lady Bremer it was not until 1980, and through extensive research, that Marcie Muir was able to identify the author as Charlotte Barton (nee Waring). It is said to be Australia's first children's book and was an early example of Australian themes and experiences including colonisation and its affect on Aboriginal Australians.
