An open and shut case? A celebration of 40 years of gay law reform in South Australia

This exhibition commemorates the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of male homosexuality in South Australia, the first Australian State to do so. Triggered by the tragic drowning in the River Torrens of law lecturer Dr George Duncan in 1972, legislation was introduced to South Australian Parliament to enact law reform. Examining these important events, the exhibition places them in the wider historical context of 19th and 20th century attitudes towards homosexual men. Included are a wide selection of original material and documents, including the original signed 1975 decriminalisation Bill.
