The Police Station, Southport.

Paul Foelsche (1831-1914) arrived in Adelaide from Hamburg at 25 years of age and joined the Mounted Police. In 1870 he moved north to Palmerston, (Darwin) as one of the first inspectors in the Northern Territory Mounted Police. At that time the Northern Territory was administered by South Australia.

In addition to his police duties Foelsche, an excellent photographer, extensively recorded the local Aboriginal people and the landscape in and around Darwin.
