Married Elizabeth Chalken in 1837. Was a member of the New Church (Swedenborgian) in London prior to his emigration to S.A. in 1850. In 1851 went to Mount Alexander goldfields. Returned to Adelaide and for 10 years was a schoolmaster, storekeeper and butcher at Hope Valley, before moving briefly to Norwood and then to 'Luton Cottage' Morphett Street, Adelaide, and taking up position as storeman in the survey Department. He was a member of the New Church in Adelaide started by Jacob Pitman, serving as his lay assistant until appointed his successor in 1859. In 1878 he was ordained. Contributor to the Press and writer of theological works and lecturer. Died 13 November 1893. His wife died 1889.
