In 1813 married Sarah Ann Firmin. Founded Deacon's Coffee Shop and News House in London. Engaged to establish a similar business for South Australian Company. Arrived S.A. 1836 on 'Africaine'. After various business enterprises including hotels and theatres, he died 1866. His wife did not come to S.A. but 2 sons followed later.
