While on board he met his wife, Florence Taylor, whom he married in 1916 and together they had four sons. Arthur worked at a range of jobs, and maintained a strong interest in the Scouts, earning the Medal of Merit for 22 years of outstanding service to the movement. When World War Two broke out, he enlisted in the AIF and served in the 2/8th Australian Field Ambulance in the Middle East and North Africa. He spent his final years living in Marden, in the north-east of Adelaide and died in 1964.
