Correspondence between members of the Giles family including from William Leslie to Henry Giles, Lydia Waterhouse to Henry Giles, Jane's mother to Jane Giles, Jane's sister to Jane Giles, Henry Giles to his sister and Jane's mother to Jane.

Henry Giles, born June 1816, was the son of William and Mary (nee Roper). He married Jane Leslie in Scotland in 1845 and arrived in South Australia soon after. He became a merchant and partner of Robert Smith in the firm Messrs. Giles and Smith. He returned to the United Kingdom for a short time in 1854 and again in 1874. His eldest daughter, Amy, married George Fullerton Cleland, nephew of 'Mr Davenport' on 22 January 1878. His son Frank married the daughter of William Strawbridge. The family lived for a time at Beaumont. Henry Giles died in February 1888.
