History/biography
Esther Pocock was born ca.1855 in Brighton, England and emigrated to South Australia on the 'Hesperus' in 1884. The ship's passenger list gives her age as 29 and her occupation as laundry maid; she travelled out under a United Kingdom free passage. Some time after her arrival in the middle of November 1884 she may have worked or lived in the household of William Christie Buik MLC, Kensington Road, Norwood. It is believed that Esther Pocock later went to live in New Zealand.
