Colin Smith
Lieutenant Colin Smith was born 23 May 1895 to Andrew and Jessie (nee Macpherson) in Semaphore, Adelaide. Married in 1888, Andrew and Jessie brought up their sons Colin, Ross, and Keith on Mutooroo Station where they gained skills in riding and bushcraft.
In 1906 the family moved to Andrew Smith's home in Moffat, Scotland, where the brothers studied at Warriston School for two years. The family returned to Australia in 1908 and the brothers attended Queen's School and St Peter's College.
World War One saw all three brothers enlist. Colin joined up in July 1915 and embarked with the 10th Battalion in August. A period of sickness saw his arrival on the Western Front delayed until November 1916. Colin was wounded in action at Zonnebeke, Belgium, on 6 October 1917 and died of his wounds.
Colin is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetary, near Poperinge, Belgium and memorialised at the Smith family burial plot at North Road Cemetary, Nailsworth, Adelaide.
