Detailed information is provided on pilotage needs, wharfage, and availability of telegraphic communications in South Australian ports. In the case of Port Adelaide, illustrations of the tide signals from the Pilot Station are provided. The outports covered include Port Pirie, Port Germein, Port Augusta, Wallaroo and Kingston.
Information includes the changes to lights and buoys and any recent channel deepening as appropriate to the port. Recent ships using the ports are listed with their tonnage and length as an indication of the size of ship that can safely use the port facilities.
Principal types of materials being imported and exported are listed as are the values of these in some instances. Rail connections to Adelaide where relevant are also given.
