TitleLifeboat regulationsDate of publication1919SourceRegulations, instructions, and useful information for officers in charge of lifeboat and rocket life-saving stations;..., p. 9-11Description
regulations for management of the lifeboat detail the pay rates for practice rescues, maintenance of the lifeboat, the signals for the launch of the boat in an emergency, and the signal for recall. It also emphasises that the lifeboat is for the saving of life only, not of any goods or cargo.
The responsibilities of the harbourmaster or other officer in charge of the lifeboat are outlined as are the duties of the coxswain.
The regulations cover the stowing of the boat after practice or a rescue. Again it is emphasised that 'On boarding wrecks the preservation of life is to be the coxswain's 'sole consideration' and he is on no account to take in any goods... which may endanger the safety of his boat and the lives of those intrusted to his charge...'
