The trip took 28 days and 135 flying hours. Sir Ross Smith had landed in Gallipol in 1915, was later awarded the Military Cross and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was pilot for 'Lawrence of Arabia'. He was killed during a test flight of the Vickers Viking aircraft.
