A car belonging to the Gaffney family bogged in a sandhill near New Well during their trip to Birdsville; Mr. Gaffney kneels by the car which has had brush wood placed beneath it as three women prepare to push the vehicle. A researcher has added that the car is a stripped down 1915 Ford Model T. This photograph is reproduced on page 16 of The Mail for Saturday 13 May 1916. With the photograph is the story of the drive.
