School fetes and other fundraising events are important means of raising additional funds for school amenities. They also provide an opportunity for students and parents to display their skills and ingenuity in designing fancy dress costumes, growing flowers, decorating bicycles and making cakes and other delicacies.

Fundraising methods have changed over the years since Westbourne Park staged their Pet and Flower show in 1935 as there are more stringent regulations for food and its handling. Perhaps more is also expected today in the way of entertainment and rides than is indicated on this poster which only mentions 'Games of every description'. South Australian company Alaska Ice Cream advertised on the poster as a 'perfect food'.

The poster may not have been all the publicity that the school used for the event but, placed on walls and fences in the district, it would have been eye-catching.
