Lola Blau is a Jewish singer in Nazi-occupied Vienna. As life there becomes more difficult, she escapes to the United States where she finds work in low class nightclubs before achieving fame on Broadway. After the war she returns to Vienna.

Her story was written by Georg Kreisler and first performed at the Kleines Theatre der Josefstadt in Vienna in 1971. This 1979 performance was part of the world premiere of the English language version commissioned by Don White.

Robyn Archer is internationally known as a singer, particularly of German cabaret songs, a writer, director, artistic director, and public advocate of the arts.

Cabaret shows are popular in South Australia, evidenced by the annual Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June of each year.
