The Australian Federation of Travel Agents Limited (AFTA) was founded in 1957, with the aim of stimulating and promoting travel. It is the main voice and overall representative for the majority of Australia's travel agents. AFTA provides its members with financial, legal and marketing benefits. In addition, its annual travel expos provide the public with a concentrated focus of travel agents and tourism possibilities, enabling quick comparison. Holiday options, both within Australia and overseas, are displayed and travel at all levels of finances, from the self-catering budget holiday to luxury cruising and travel, and the multitude of holiday resorts.

The Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace, Adelaide was opened in June 1987 providing a central location, convenient to transport, for the staging of conferences and exhibitions. AFTA Travel fairs have been staged at the Convention Centre since 1987.
