The children's programme Here's Humphrey was first televised by Channel Nine, Adelaide in May 1965. The character was created by Rex Heading and appeared originally as Bear Bear until he was renamed Humphrey B. Bear after a competition. The children's show featured Humphrey and performers using dance, music, stories, colours and magic to entertain and educate their young viewers.

The song featured on this record was devised by Channel Nine as a safety theme which could help to avoid accidents or harm happening to a child's family. The album cover features Humphrey, singer Ann North and another regular character, Wilbur Worm, on the original set of Here's Humphrey in the Channel Nine studios. As well as records and cds, other Humphrey merchandise produced over the years include soft toys, money boxes, books and quilt covers. The State Library holds other Humphrey items such as books, videos and sound recordings, which can be found on the library catalogue.

The show continued to be made in South Australia until production ceased in 2009. It was one of the longest running children's shows in Australia and won Logies for best Children's series. Humphrey himself has won a number of awards and commendations and even received a special "Citizen of the Year" award at the 1994 Australia Day celebrations. Versions of the show were also made in the United States and in Spanish.
