South Australia's leadership in women's suffrage drew critical comments from conservative groups in other colonies. In response to the demand by Victorian women for the right to vote, the Conservative Party responds in this cartoon, 'I assure you they're very unbecoming, ma'am. Just look at Miss South Australia there!' Victoria was the last Australian state to give women the vote (1908) and to permit women to stand for Parliament (1923).
