Zoot grew out of a band called Times Unlimited based in Christies Beach where they would run dances in the surrounding area. Their early line-up included Darryl Cotton, Beeb Birtles, John D'Arcy and Teddy Higgins. Very much a pop band, in keeping with their 'Think Pink' image, they later produced a far heavier sound after new members Rick Springfield and Rick Brewer joined. This was exemplified by their version of Eleanor Rigby.

Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield both had successful solo careers and Beeb Birtles went on to play in the Little River Band.

The album Just Zoot was realeased by Columbia Records in 1969.
