Diary of John Bailey's voyage to Melbourne and Sydney on the 'Osmanli', 24 October 1853 to 13 February 1854 . Includes an index by the writer at the beginning of the volume.

John Bailey, b.1801, Hackney, London. Arrived on 'Buckinghamshire' 1839 with wife Maria, nee Manson, & family. Colonial Botanist and nurseryman. Died 25 May 1864 at Adelaide. (One son Frederick Manson Bailey was Government Botanist, Brisbane, Queensland). The Hackney Nursery was founded by John Bailey on 7 & 1 half acres on the south west corner 256, Hackney, in 1845 and sold in 1876. F.M. Bailey's son John Frederick Bailey became Director of the Adelaide Botanic in 1919.
