Toy aeroplanes did not become popular until after World War One. Earlier, publicity generated by the long distance record flights had stimulated interest, but toy aeroplanes had never reached the heights of popularity of toy cars and particularly of toy trains. After World War Two 'space' toys also entered the market.
Model construction kits for aeroplanes and ships were, and remain, popular appealing to a different market.
