The yellow flag and Torrens Island terror, volume 1, number 2

In 1901 those aboard the Orient Line’s RMS Ormuz who were quarantined at the Torrens Island Quarantine Station when a case of smallpox occurred aboard the ship. When it arrived at Port Adelaide visitors, including some journalists, boarded the ship seemingly before the smallpox case was reported. They too were quarantined.

Its subtitle "A journal published by the Marooned on Muddle Island in the State of South Australia" shows the humour of the unfortunate scribes.
The magazine was edited by a  Hugh Kalyptus, a pen name for  Spencer John Skipper.

The Observer newspaper reported on the case Wednesday 22 May 1901, page 3: 
'SMALLPOX ON THE ORMUZ.
ADELAIDE, Tuesday. — A curious development occurred today in connection with the arrival of the R.M.S. Ormuz, which has the supposed Italian anarchist on board. During the run from Albany a passenger developed symptoms of smallpox, so on arrival at Adelaide the passengers for here had to go into quarantine, and all communication with the shore was cut off. By some means Mr. Conlon; tide surveyor; Skipper, the shipping reporter; and Messrs. Whittington and Horton, reporters of the 'Register,' got on board the Ormuz in ignorance of the smallpox case. They were arrested, and have been sent into quarantine for twenty-one days on Torrens Island.'
