On this map of Gallipoli can be seen the location of the Battle of Lone Pine on the '400 plateau'. The hill of Lone Pine is a little plateau less than 400 feet high running N.W. S.E. and measuring perhaps 250 yards long by 200 yards across. On its southwestern side it drops down in gullies to a ridge, known as Pine Ridge, which gradually declines away to the low ground near Gaba Tepe. On its northeastern side it joins the high ground known as Johnston's Jolly, which was a strong part of the Turk position.

Because the map was printed around 1915 it does not show the name Lone Pine, or the Turkish name Kanli Sirt for 'bloody ridge'. To find the location of the 400 plateau look for Suvla Bay on the coast then follow the coast south to Nibrunesi Point then south to Fisherman's Hut and south to Kaba Tepe. Halfway between Fisherman's Hut and Kaba Tepe and just inland is a spot marked Low Scrub and next to it 400. This is the 400 plateau on which Lone Pine was one of the battlegrounds. Seven Australians won the Victoria Cross for gallantry in the face of the enemy at the Battle of Lone Pine.
