One of a series of three maps that trace Stuart's progress across the continent during all of his expeditions, culminating in his triumphant attainment of the north coast of Australia 24 July 1862. The maps record the detail of the country that he and his men traversed, and illustrate the many thwarted attempts to push across to the Victoria River--his original planned north coast destination--and towards the Gulf of Carpentaria another option. The place names he assigned record his indebtedness to friends and sponsors and to the men of his expeditions.
