BiographyPhil Laing was born in Launceston in 1955. He qualified as a teacher, drank his first wine when he was at university, visited Henschke winery in South Australia, in 1980 was a member of the Tasmanian Wine Options Team and met people in the wine industry, in Tasmania there was a north/south wine challenge which included Andrew Price and Graham Wiltshire. Talks about the growth of Tasmanian wine, visiting France in the mid 80s, starting to write about wine in 1987, running wine courses at Aberfeldy and becoming a cellarmaster
