Commemoration of World War One
More than 60,000 Australians lost their lives in the First World War. A further 156,000 men were wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. Over 5,500 South Australian lives were lost in the conflict. The Souvenir guide of South Australia's fighting men of the A.I.F., published in 1919, provides details of the contributions South Australians made in each of the theatres of war between 1914 and 1918, and gives biographical notes on individual officers.

The Dardanelles Memorial was the first monument erected to commemorate the Gallipoli campaign. It was dedicated on 7 September 1915.
The Library holds a vast amount of material dealing with the many facets of the First World War, including the commemoration of those who served.
