Interview with Noemi Campagnolo (nee Zalunardo) [sound recording] / interviewer, Madeleine Regan
Noemi was born in 1947, the daughter of Eugenio Zalunardo and Luigia nee Ballestrin who were market gardeners on Grange Road, Kidman Park in the 1940s and 1950s. Noemi speaks about her family background and her husband and children; a number of Ballestrin relatives who were market gardeners in Kidman Park and Flinders Park; her parents' market garden of about 5 - 6 acres on the southern side of Grange Road between Findon and Frogmore Roads; memories of growing up on the market garden which was comprised of 25 glasshouses for tomatoes and beans and some vegetables grown outside; going to market with her father; her responsibilities in the garden and looking after her mother who was ill for many years until she died in 1965 when Noemi was 17 years old; social occasions in her family; traditions with food and making wine; the important role of her cousin, Angina who helped her and her brother when her mother died. Noemi recalls her schooling and leaving school after two years at secondary school to work in the family market gardens; the extent of her working life which left little time for a social life; her parents' friends and relatives; godparents; her marriage to Tiziano in 1969; changes in the Grange Road area. A final focus is her pride in her Italian heritage.
