Interview with Maria Rosa Tormena for the Italian Market Gardeners Oral History Project. Maria arrived from Italy with her parents and older brother in Austrtalia in 1940 as a six year old. She describes her memories of Adelaide; living in Waymouth Street in the west end of the City; school at St Mary's Dominican Convent, Franklin Street; her love of sport; relatives including the Rossetto family - seven of eight siblings emigrated to Australia - an aunt and uncle were market gardeners on Frogmore Road and another uncle had a market garden on Findon Road; attending weddings of the Tonellato family members on Frogmore Road; her father's sudden death in 1950. Other themes include her first trip to Italy in 1969 when she worked in the Dolomites; and buying a house with her mother and brother in Gilberton, and her working life including working for her aunt and uncle's grocery shop in Hindley Street in the City; the Savvas family in the Central Market.
