BiographyStephen Henschke was born 3 December 1950 in Angaston. He grew up at Kyneton on a winery which had started in the 1860s. He worked for Rothbury Estate in 1973. Studied at Geisenheim in Germany doing winemaking and viticulture; introduced new technology to Australian vineyards in 1977; and took over running the cellars and improving the quality of wine. In 1982 he won the Arthur Kelman trophy in Sydney and won many awards up until the 1990s. He began exporting wine in 1986
