An earlier patriotic concert at Port Pirie had so impressed South Australia’s Governor Galway that he instigated its 1915 Adelaide repeat as the Khaki concert.
Conductor, violinist and music teacher Eugene Alderman was very active in fundraising efforts during the War. When he died suddenly, at age 33 in 1916, his loss was keenly felt by the music community. Prizes in his name are still awarded by the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
