Conductor, violinist and music teacher Eugene Alderman was very active in fundraising efforts during the War. Born in 1884 he studied in Brussels and the Elder Conservatorium. Featured as Leader in Heinicke's Orchestra concert of 1914. He was conductor of the Patriotic Orchestra.
When he died suddenly of cerebral meningitis, at age 33 in 1916, his loss was keenly felt by the music community. Prizes in his name are still awarded by the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
